Servant of God Patrick Peyton, Who Encouraged Millions to Pray the Rosary, Is Remembered on the Anniversary of His Birth at

w138He was born into a poor but faithful family in Ireland, then became one of the most influential Catholic priests of the 20th century in America. The story of Servant of God Patrick Peyton is an inspiring one – and now it is being told on an updated and enhanced website: as the ministry he founded celebrates the anniversary of his birth on January 9.

Chronicling Father Peyton’s life and mission to strengthen family unity through daily prayer of the Rosary, the revised website is a multimedia experience with features to entertain and educate viewers – in a format that is mobile-friendly and easy to view on all digital formats. It includes videos, audio, photos, personal testimonials and a detailed biography of the man who is now being considered for Sainthood by the Vatican.

“Father Peyton lived a life of holiness that is inspirational to all of us,” said Father Willy Raymond, C.S.C., President of Holy Cross Family Ministries.  “We hope families are inspired by his example and see that even from the most humble beginnings, any of us can accomplish great things for God’s glory.”

The updated website chronicles how Father Peyton became a media pioneer while urging families to pray the Rosary together.   “The site is a testament to his faithfulness in serving Mary while demonstrating many of his important contributions in film, radio, television and outdoor media,” said Father Raymond.

He began with radio in a national broadcast on Mother’s Day in 1945. It evolved into the weekly drama series “Family Theater” on national radio – and later television – featuring scores of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Loretta Young, Grace Kelly and many more.

Father Peyton’s efforts included films and one of the largest billboard campaigns in U.S. history, which continues today and features inspiring ideas to encourage family prayer. He also led massive Rosary Rallies around the world that were attended by millions of people. He is remembered by his two iconic sayings: “The family that prays together stays together” and “A world at prayer is a world at peace.”

A media pioneer, Father Peyton understood how the entertainment industry could be used to inspire and inform people about family prayer. He died in 1992 but his mission continues today at Holy Cross Family Ministries with apps, online videos, dramas on DVD, classic radio programs, TV specials on PBS and cable networks, and more.

Originally developed in 2010, now includes more details of this devout priest’s life and updates on the Cause for Sainthood, which is being reviewed by the Vatican.

“We used new technologies to enhance the site experience for visitors,” said Father David S. Marcham, Vice Postulator for Father Peyton’s Cause.   “Different types of media – photos, video and audio – were included to tell his story. I hope visitors find it to be inspiring and visually interesting. We think Father Peyton would be pleased with the new site because of the way he embraced new media to reach families with his message of praying the Rosary together.”

In the spirit of its founder, Servant of God Patrick Peyton, Holy Cross Family Ministries promotes and supports the spiritual well-being of the family. Through prayer programs and media, they reach out to families to fulfill the founder’s vision that “the family that prays together stays together."
